Another TO Maple Leaf

My second Maple Leaf cake
This one is vanilla with rolled fondant.Instead of covering the board in white fondant this time I made a fondant rope out of white and blue. This one is about 25% smaller then the last but I used the same letter stencils that I made for the last one.
The first picture is without the birthday wishes.

Toronto Maple Leafs

This was a white cake covered in fondant. From tip to tip approximately 16"x16".
It was so humid the day I made it that I could only work on it for 10-15 minutes at a time and then had to put it back in the fridge.
Not sure what happened to the last picture, very blurry so posted the picture of it prior to the letters being added.
It was a groom's cake. Made July 31st/09

A different kind of Spiderman Cake

This is a cake I made July 2009 for my nephew. I shaped the building and covered it in butter cream. I then covered the cake and board in fondant and added a small Spiderman made of fondant. Needless to say he loved it. I had also sewn superhero capes for him and all the party goers.

Golf Ball Cake

This cake I made on a whim last minute. My son had been attending Golf Camp at Carmen Creek Golf Course all week and I made it for his group's last day. It was a vanilla cake with butter cream frosting covered in fondant. My son requested I put the "thank you" on it for his instructors.

Nashwaaksis Memorial Elementary School grade 5

Another group off to middle school in the fall. Not as detailed as the one I did for the grade 5's last year. Marble cake covered in fondant with the school mascot. June 2009.

Douglas Elementary School Grade 5

This is a marble cake covered in fondant. Very plain and simple with the school mascot, Dougie!
Done June 2009.

Dora cake

I really need to keep this up to date. Here are some recent cakes.
The Dora cake I made for my granddaughter's 3rd birthday. She also wanted an ice cream cake so the two complemented each other (cake and ice cream are always a good combination). My camera was out of commission so someone else took the pics for me. The shape and idea for the cake came from a coloring page. It was done all in butter cream with a star tip. I did this cake in May, 2009.

I know I said this was a work in progress and I apologize I haven't "spruced up" this site yet. here are two of my most recent cakes.
One is copied from a tattoo. It was a small 8" single layer chocolate cake covered and decorated in rolled fondant. A little history; the tattoo is over the persons heart. It is his son's name with a maple leaf and a shamrock. His son was born on St Patrick's Day.
The second was for a friend that loves ham and is a bit of a ham himself. It is a small single layer 6" chocolate caked covered and decorated in rolled fondant. It's simply a slice of ham.

This blog is under construction so please be patient...

These are some of my cakes. I am self taught and all my designs are done freehand. I work mostly with butter cream and a star tip but have recently started working with rolled icing or sugar paste.
I really enjoy doing the cakes. I love seeing the happy reactions when the cake is picked up.
Until I have this blog thing figured out, please, be patient.

Thank you,
